2014 AICP Exam Scholarship Application Now Available

2014 May AICP Exam Scholarship Information

The American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners have joined together to offer reduced AICP exam fee scholarships to two Colorado Chapter members in 2014. The Chapter will select one scholarship winner for the May 2014 testing window and reopen the application process in summer 2014 for the November testing window. The purpose of the scholarship is to offer assistance to those individuals who may defer taking or are unable to take the AICP exam because of the high cost.

First time exam candidates as well as previous (but unsuccessful) test-takers qualify for the reduced rates:
• First time AICP applicants: $135 (combined $70 application and $65 exam fee)
• Previously approved AICP applicants: $65 (exam fee only)

Selection Criteria
Exam candidates must provide a written explanation of their financial hardship (including financial hardship caused by a budget cutback in a firm or agency), which necessitates the request. Additional considerations include:
• Members of ethnic or racial minorities shall be given preference.
• The applicant(s) selected will be otherwise unlikely to take the exam without the reduced fee.
• The applicant’s employer will not subsidize the exam fee.

How to Apply
1. Complete the Scholarship Application form by January 3, 2014. Candidates must be members of the Colorado Chapter to qualify.
2. Send your application to: Shelia Booth, Chapter Administrator (

Additional Information
The exam application and the scholarship application are completely independent. The early bird deadline for the exam application is December 19, 2013; the final deadline is January 23, 2014. For more information regarding the exam application, please visit Applying for the reduced fee does not guarantee you will qualify to sit for the exam. Because of the deadline for the exam and the time it takes for AICP to review candidate qualifications, scholarship applicants may need to pay for the exam in full and then be reimbursed if they are awarded the scholarship. APA Colorado will notify applicants by January 13, 2014, whether they have been selected for recommendation to APA National for the reduced fee scholarship. We may also select an alternate in case a scholarship winner does not complete the exam application process or does not qualify to sit for the exam.
