Mitigating Hazards Through Land Use Solutions Workshop 2

The Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DSHEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are holding a one-day (8 am to 5 pm) workshop with six Colorado communities (Brighton, Larkspur, Denver, Fort Collins, Longmont, Lyons, and Thornton) to explore land use solutions to mitigate the impacts of flooding. The workshop will be a deep dive into the steps necessary to develop and adopt preventive mitigation actions. Utilizing DOLA’s Planning for Hazards Guide (planningforhazards.com), the workshop will assist teams from in development of a roadmap to implementing a flood mitigation strategy.

Learning Objectives

1. Determine a land use solution to mitigation an aspect of flooding in their community.
2. Develop a process for adopting the land use solution.
3. Determine the stakeholder engagement strategy.
4. Develop an implementation/adoption plan.
