President's Message: 2017 Chapter Awards

Happy November!

In this issue of Planning Matters we showcase the winners of our 2017 Colorado Chapter Planning Awards. These awards were presented at our State Conference in beautiful Mountain Village / Telluride. The conference itself was a great success, with a record number of attendees (over 500) and education sessions showcasing some of the best work that planners are doing across the state. I am thankful to those of you that were able to make it to the conference and contributed to its success! The conference provides an opportunity to network with our peers, make new connections, and get inspired with ideas that we can take back to our own communities and projects. Please be sure to mark your calendar now for our state conference next year, October 3-5, 2018 at Keystone Resort & Conference Center. Also, start thinking of your session ideas and potential awards nominations for 2018. Our conference success relies on your willingness to share your knowledge and stories.

With the New Year fast approaching, the Board and committees are focusing on 2018 and we could use your help! Please consider volunteering to be on a committee and raise your hand to take on a task or project that furthers the mission of the Colorado Chapter of the APA. Please contact our Chapter Administrator at admin@apacolorado.org and note what committee(s) you are interested in joining (or just to learn more about committee opportunities). We especially need committed members for the Legislative Committee for the upcoming legislative session.

Another opportunity to get involved and network with our peers is fast approaching. Our first annual chapter holiday party will be held December 1st from 5-7 pm at Jazz at Jacks in Denver. Be sure to save the date! I’m looking forward to seeing you and enjoying the live music, great food, and libations with friends.

As always, if you have an idea on how the Chapter can better serve our membership, please drop me a line at president@apacolorado.org.

Happy Holidays and Take Care,
Michelle Stephens, AICP
