Sustainability Committee

Mission:

The mission of the APA Colorado Sustainability Committee is to promote the integration of sustainability principles into planning policy and practice through relevant education and outreach.

Goals:
• Identify innovative planning methods and tools
o Research best practices in sustainable planning
• Collaborate
o Partner with other organizations that share common mission and goals
o Engage APA Colorado membership, including young planners
• Promote policy recommendations to support sustainable planning
o Work with the APA Colorado Legislative Committee on policy issues
• Share innovative methods, foster dialog, and raise awareness on sustainability issues and how they relate to planning through:
o A section on the APA Colorado website
o An article in the Newsletter each quarter
o Seminars (eligible for CM credits) for planners on how to practicably green their communities
o Greening State Conference and presenting sessions
o Providing relevant educational opportunities provided by other organizations
o As appropriate, promote volunteer opportunities or workday events that support community sustainability efforts

Sustainability Definition:
Sustainability is the capability to equitably meet the vital human needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs by preserving and protecting the area's ecosystems and natural resources. Sustainability Committee Meeting

Meetings are held once a month (except for July) and are typically scheduled to take place at 8:30 AM on the third Tuesday of the month. A call in number is available for those unable to meet in person. For more information on attending the meetings please contact:

Erosion Hazard Mapping Presentation

While the presentation at the last APA Sustainability Committee meeting was beset with some technological difficulties, our presenter, Katie Jagt, kept calm and delivered some powerful and informative information on a topic that is really leading edge in terms of hazard mapping and ancillary habitat mapping for land use considerations.
