Elizabeth Trails Design

Short Category Description

The Town of Elizabeth has been awarded two separate but matching grants. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) awarded the Town $700,000.00 as part of the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). The TAP grant has an 80/20 match requirement. Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) subsequently awarded the Town $596,631.00 from their “Paths to Parks” Program. This grant has a 75/25 match requirement. The two grants will be used to provide matching funds to each other, and this is the only funding available for this project. Including Town of Elizabeth contribution, the total project budget is $1,347,971. The goal is that the design process can be economical and efficient, to maximize the amount of completed trail construction under these grants. The Elizabeth trail system is located in and around the Town of Elizabeth. These trails will connect various educational institutions including Elizabeth High School, Elizabeth Middle School, Frontier Alternative High School, Running Creek Elementary School, and the Elizabeth Branch Library. In addition to the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) between educational institutions, the trail system will connect Town and County parks including the following: Evans Park, Casey Jones Park, Bandt Park, Larmer Park, Shepherd Park, Hillside Park, and Elizabeth’s Community Garden and future Dog Park. Main Street Elizabeth and the Senior Activity Center will have direct access to the trail system as well as various Town services such as the Police Department, Public Works Department, and Elizabeth Fire district. Some of the major components of this project include a pedestrian bridge over Running Creek, a hard surface 10-foot path with an adjacent soft surface equestrian component, community collaboration, educational elements, and wayfinding/branding.
