HOURLY RATE:   $15.00 - 15.00 per hour (based on relevant experience)

SUMMARY: Provides technical support to the Planning Division by assisting with long-range planning and development review projects.   

POTENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Conducts field work, including: windshield surveys, and photographic documentation, and inspection.
  • Prepares communication work products such as: presentations, displays, newsletters, newspaper inserts/ads, flyers, and social media posts.
  • Conducts data collection and analysis.  
  • Assists in coordination of meetings with the public, Boards and Commissions, Council, and task forces.  
  • May provide copy writing, editing, layout, mapping, and design services.
  • Researches, evaluates, verifies and presents background information and data pertaining to projects. 
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of City codes, systems and plans related to urban planning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, City Council, City Boards and Commissions, and the public.
  • Ability to attend meetings and perform other duties on evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Photography skills.
  • Ability to take a project/duty from concept to a finished product.
  • May require knowledge of Geographical Information Systems and graphic design software programs.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, or closely related field.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret development plans, maps, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver's license.
