RG and Associates, LLC (RGA), a mid-size civil engineering and planning firm, has been providing customer focused engineering, planning and construction administration services to clients throughout Colorado for over 32 years. We have offices throughout Colorado in Del Norte, Silverthorne, and Wheat Ridge. It is our goal to work closely with our clients to provide services that are efficient, cost-effective and ensure reasonable engineering, planning and construction administration practices.

Our Planning Team are experts in municipal planning, development review, comprehensive planning and zoning regulations. We currently assist over 15 client communities with development review and zoning administration.

RGA is seeking a dynamic and energetic entry-level Planning Technician to join our Planning Team. The successful team member will assist our Planning Team by providing planning services for small and rural municipalities throughout Colorado. The Planning Technician will work under the supervision of senior level planners on a variety of planning projects, services, and issues.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public
  • Reviews zoning, building, and other development review applications to assure compliance with rules, regulations, and standards
  • Performs routine office tasks, including data entry, file management, copying and answering telephone
  • Develops and maintains filing and application tracking systems, hard copy files and records
  • Prepares narrative staff reports and recommendations of limited complexity
  • Researches and compiles information on a variety of planning issues from multiple sources
  • Prepares public notices and mailings
  • Prepares maps, charts, tables and plan documents
  • Attends public meetings, assisting other planning staff as appropriate

Knowledge Required:

·        Knowledge of planning principles and practices, with specific understanding of development review processes and procedures

·        Knowledge of principles and practices of research and data collection

·        Knowledge of effective writing techniques

·        Statistical, algebraic or geometric knowledge and ability to apply such knowledge in practical situations

·        Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, including Microsoft Office, Adobe products, graphic and layout programs, and ESRI GIS


Skills Required:

·        Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly to the public

·        Problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve vaguely defined practical problems

·        Ability to review plans and apply provisions of the ordinances and codes to determine compliance with such regulations and to apply regulations to field conditions

·        Ability to work on several projects simultaneously

·        Ability to work well independently or in a team environment as needed, including excellent time management and prioritization skills

·        Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships at various levels and to resolve complaints


Minimum Qualifications:

·        Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, architecture, urban design, engineering, social sciences, or related field.

·        Two years of municipal planning experience.

·        A Master’s Degree in Planning or directly related field may substitute for two years of experience.

·        Experience applying ESRI GIS, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, SketchUp, Google Earth, Microsoft Office 365 suite is strongly desired. 

·        Experience working in small, rural community experience preferred.

·        Any combination of education and experience will be considered.

Additional Requirements:

·        Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain one and reliable transportation.
