Job Description

The City of Greenwood Village is a suburb of Denver with 16,000 full-time residents and approximately 45,000 additional persons each work day due to nationally recognized business parks. The Village offers a unique mix of rural and urban environments. We are seeking a Senior Planner to join our Community Development team.

This important team member is an advanced-level professional planner responsible for leading complex development cases.  The Senior Planner’s role is to assist in articulating community goals and objectives for the physical development of the Village and to assure high quality development outcomes in the community.  The position assists the Community Development Director and the Planning Manager as a professional planner, including preparing long-range plans; reviewing and making recommendations for action on development-related requests to the City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Board of Adjustments and Appeals; conducting special studies and research projects, including updates to the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code; preparing reports; and responding to requests for information from the public.  Collaboratively working with the public is a part of the day-to-day activities of this position.

To be successful in this position, you must possess a Bachelor's degree with major coursework in urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, environmental design, or a related field plus a minimum of six years progressively responsible experience as a professional urban planner.  Experience handling complex or politically challenging land use cases and presenting to high-level boards or City Councils is highly desirable.

It is essential for candidates to possess an ability to build collaborative relationships with internal staff, City Council, Boards and Commissions, developers, and applicants.  Strong technical, analytical, and project management skills plus a demonstrated ability to successfully navigate public meetings and make public presentations are required.
