Preserving an Agricultural Heritage: The Joint Adams County/City of Brighton District Plan

In an innovative collaboration, the City of Brighton and Adams County developed a district plan that encourages smart growth and preserving farmland. Developed in parallel with Brighton’s comprehensive plan, Be Brighton, the plan promotes agritourism through a new land use category, Local District Mixed Use, which encourages food cultivation and processing alongside compatible residential and commercial development.

The Long & Winding Road: A Brownfields Success Story

The Globe Plant smelter operated from 1886 to 2005 on the border of the city of Denver and Adams County, serving as the symbol of prosperity for the working class Globeville neighborhood. Once the smelter closed, the neighborhood was left with a hole in the community, with a steep uphill battle to overcome. Despite the long odds, a broad group of community leaders forged a creative path to redevelopment of this important site.
