Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I don’t have much free time but I’d like to be more involved with APA-CO? Is there a role for me?
A: APA-CO is always looking for volunteers to help strengthen our organization and help carry out our mission! Browse the Committee’s pages to see if there is a group working in an area that interests you. We are always looking for simple contributions, too, such as submitting photos to the photo contest or graphic design skills for flyers. Let Shelia know if you have a special skill that you’d like to contribute to APA-CO.
Q: Are there service/volunteer opportunities?
A: APA-CO partners with Downtown Colorado, Inc to find planners with design expertise to participate in their program to provide free technical assistance to Colorado towns design and planning expertise. Visits happen several times a year throughout Colorado and generally require a two day time commitment. If you are interested in being informed when a new opportunity arises, please contact the Vice President of External Affairs (VPExtAff@apacolorado.org).
Q: How is the money that I pay in APA dues spent?
A: The board approves an annual budget that can be found on our Budget page.
Q: How do I update my email address?
A: If you are a member of APA National, you can update your email address and other contact information through your membership profile after you login to the APA website (www.planning.org). If you are a APA Colorado Chapter Only Member, you'll need to email your new information to the APA Colorado Chapter Administrator.
Q: Who represents me on the APA Board?
A: Every Board member is your representative, but each region/area also elects an individual to represent that areas voice on the APA Colorado Board. Check out the Area Map if you don’t know your region, then go to the APA Board Members page to find your area representative. You can also visit your Area Representatives home page to see what's happening in your part of the state. Feel free to contact your Representative at any time. They will be glad to hear from you!
Q. How do I get information on a particular zoning problem we are having in our community?
A: There are currently a few ways to seek assistance from your fellow APA Colorado planners. First, you can use the APA listserv (email) to forward your question to all Chapter members who have not opted out of the listserv. You can research the list serve archives as well to see if others have asked the same question previously. You can post your question on one of the new website discussion forums. You can also post your question on the APA Colorado social media sites such as Facebook or LinkedIn.
Q. Does the APA Colorado Chapter offer help with preparing for the AICP Exam?
A: You bet we do! Check out the Professional Development section of this website to see all the information on study guides, study groups, study materials and exam preparation workshops. Contact the Professional Development Officer for more information.
