Brainstorming: Ukraine's Post War Reconstruction Report

At NPC22 the International Division sponsored a session "Brainstorming: Ukraine's Post War Reconstruction" on May 2, 2022. The session was well attended with vigorous audience participation - verbally and in writing, facilitating our path forward that we will keep you apprised of.

The report is available on the Division's website at: https://international.planning.org/community/ukraine/. It includes updated information between the session and the time of publication to enhance its usefulness.

This is the first in a series of reports on the subject planned by the International Division, we will keep APA apprised and provide future reports for your information and use as expeditiously as possible.

In the interim, we have also created a database of planners with a participatory interest in the reconstruction efforts. The database will be expanded as interest is expressed by additional people - within APA and outside. We will be pleased to add additional chapter members and interested persons to the database enabling them to stay current.

By virtue of current contacts and information availability, our efforts appear to be Kharkiv focused, as a model, but our intent is to look at and recommend actions and avenues to enhance the post-war quality of life throughout Ukraine. To facilitate and optimize our efforts, the core team members are reaching out to other organizations and individuals internationally and in Ukraine to provide direct assistance to Ukrainian planners and communities. There are a number of international organizations that have initiated similar efforts, with the apparent gravitation towards the European Union and RTPI's "Planners without Boundaries" expected to lead the long-range efforts.

We are in the process of developing a Strategy Implementation Plan, and specific subject matter guidelines and solutions, applicable across Ukraine to optimize the efforts of the international partners on global initiatives.

Please feel free to share this and future reports with others you may think will be interested and facilitate the support and involvement of the APA leadership in this worthwhile effort.

Please feel free to contact me or any member of the core team if you have any questions or need additional information.

We look forward to participation, by members of your Chapter in facilitating perhaps one of the biggest planning initiatives of the decade.
