Call for Proposals: 2020 Hindsight Conference

Hindsight is a conference on urban planning through an equity lens, organized and run by the American Planning Association New York Metro Chapter's Diversity Committee (DivComm). Each year, Hindsight honors a significant urban planning and equity-related milestone to not only shed light on the discriminatory history of planning and its role in shaping today's inequitable places, but also to highlight planning as a means of achieving more inclusive, just, and equitable communities. The first annual conference in 2017 honored the 100th Anniversary of Buchanan v. Warley, in which the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated racial zoning. The 2018 conference honored the 50th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, which outlaws housing discrimination and requires cities to address segregation and disparate access to opportunity. The 2019 conference honored three watershed moments in Black and LGBTQ history under the theme of Erasure, Remembrance, and Healing.
