Chapter Administrator Update

2013 is closed and we’re starting to look forward and plan for 2014. With the launch of our new website, we have the opportunity to better distribute information to our members and to promote our organization as a whole. I hope you’ve taken the time to visit the website since the launch in November and like what you see. Our goal is to make it the hub of all things APA Colorado.

The 2014 APA Colorado Conference will be held in Crested Butte October 1st through 4th. The Local Host Committee and I have started planning this event and are already excited about the opportunities made available to us in this unique community and area of the state. Please keep your eye out for the Call for Sessions that will be opened in February. We hope to get another massive selection of quality sessions to choose from for the conference. Nominations for the APA Colorado Awards will quickly following in March and registration for the conference will open in June. Its never too early to start planning your trip. And, if you’re organization or company would like to sponsor the conference—just let me know.

If you’re traveling to the national conference in Atlanta this year, join us again for the APA Colorado reception. We hope to partner with APA New Mexico and APA Utah this year for a lively event where you can meet other planners from the West to discuss planning issues, social issues or even the latest political trends. Registration for the national conference is open and the program looks to be robust yet again.

Finally, I’ve completed my first full year with APA Colorado and I’m happy to say its been very fulfilling. I appreciate the feedback—both good and bad—from everyone and hope you’ll forward me any suggestions you have on how I can do my job better or better serve the organization. Our Board is very active these days and we are always ready for new activities, ideas and willing to hear all your comments and suggestions.

Make 2014 the best planning year it can be. Get outside as much as you can and enjoy the beautiful landscape that is Colorado. Remind yourself why it is you became a planner. Find inspiration in the streets, trails and paths you travel.
