President's Message: COVID-19

Letter From APA Colorado's Chapter President:

Michelle Stephens, AICP

Planners are on the front lines of addressing COVID-19 during this crisis and will continue to have the opportunity to define and deliver policy when the next stage arrives.

Over the last week APA Colorado has moved from a "wait and see" approach to a "how can we support our members" approach. In this week's e-blast you will find a variety of resources that are aimed at supporting your:

  • Professional growth with online CM opportunities - including free classes;
  • Day-to-day career with information and links to helpful tools and resources; and
  • Personal life with information and links to resources that we hope will help you stay sane and connected while observing social distancing.

As planners, we are uniquely positioned to lead our communities in times of crisis. You will be asked to continue with your long range planning and policy making while still ensuring that the wheels of great development move forward. You must do all that while also thoughtfully hearing and considering all the voices in your community. I know you can do it. And if you need help - we're here. You are connected to a network of over 1500 planning professionals in the State of Colorado who are facing similar challenges. I encourage you to reach out to this network. Ask questions. Share stories. We are all learning and developing best practices in this never-before-seen event. Let's take this opportunity to demonstrate our critical thinking, problem solving, and consensus building skills. Let's shine!

Shine on,

Michelle Stephens, AICP

Note: All APA Colorado events have been canceled and postponed and we have removed all partner events from our website, regardless of their cancellation notice or lack thereof. We hope to reschedule our events for later in the year.

Please note that at this time we continue to plan for the September 30-October 1st Colorado Planning Conference; however, we will continue to monitor the situation and adjust as needed.
