Proposed AICP CM Changes: Seeking Member Comments

APA Colorado is seeking member input on proposed updates to the AICP Certification Maintenance (CM) program. These changes, if approved by the AICP Commission this September, would be implemented January 1, 2021. The AICP Commission is always looking to improve the AICP CM program and as such, is considering these changes because the CM mandatory topics and associated credits have not changed since the mandatory topics program began 10 years ago. APA Colorado will be reviewing member comments and compiling a Chapter response to the AICP Commission regarding these changes. Please review and offer feedback for the AICP Commission to Allison Crump and Michelle Stephens by May 22nd. Comments should be uploaded to: Comments can also be sent directly to APA.

The AICP Commission is considering increasing the number of mandatory topics / credits required for each reporting period from 3 credits to 4. Below are details covering the difference between the existing CM mandatory topics / credits and the proposed new CM mandatory topics / credits. For your convenience, APA has created a webpage with details of the proposed changes to the mandatory CM credits, including frequently asked questions developed based on the discussions at NPC19.

CM Credits

I think adjusting the CM credits makes a lot of sense.  Generally, classes are one hour so it is tricky to get that extra .5 credit.

CM Credits

I agree with Janet about that pesky .5 credit requirement.

I'm excited that we're doing more to address equity and climate. I think it might be helpful to include climate as a permanently required topic since it is critical that we stay informed. Rotating targeted subjects will be very helpful to keep us engaged, informed, and curious about subjects that may sometimes get overlooked.
