Fri, Oct 30, 2015 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM MDT

Hosted by: NY Upstate Chapter
1.5 CMS Approved

This presentation will cover the goals of a local comprehensive emergency management plan versus the All Hazard Mitigation Plan and the benefits of having a pre-event “Recovery Plan.” The conversation will narrow to samples for conducting policy and regulatory audits and land use techniques for flood resilience, including green infrastructure, riparian/coastal buffers, and floodplain management. Solutions for long-term flood resilience include a review of the American Planning Association's Model Recovery Ordinance, higher regulatory standards for flood damage prevention ordinances, and an introduction to the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System.
