The APA Youth In Planning Committee will participate in a training and vision session with national education and youth engagement expert Michelle Pearson. Michelle is a nationally known speaker and clever teacher who finds effective ways to engage youth and incorporate technology and primary sources into education. Michele is a lead organizer on the Colorado Preserve Youth Summit, an 8-year program turning kids into planning consultants that is now being utilized by the National Park Service. The group will share success stories already underway in the state and work to come up with new events and methods to meaningfully engage youth. Michelle is a great speaker and can teach even the most seasoned Planners new trick on engaging all audiences.

Michelle is an educator, historic preservationist, the 2008 Colorado Technology Teacher of the Year, the 2011 Colorado Teacher of the Year and is half of the team TwoGeeky Teachers. She works diligently to promote the use of historic preservation in the classroom and was formerly a historic preservation professional at History Colorado. She currently works in the Adams 12 School district at Century Middle School and collaborates with local, state, and national partners to develop curriculum and resources for educators, conduct strategic planning for local boards, commissions, and other groups, and collaborates to assist in bringing youth voice to historic preservation, planning, and architecture and archaeology initiatives.
