Outstanding Planning Project – Honor: Adams County Open Space, Parks and Trails Master Plan

Outstanding Planning Project – Honor: Adams County Open Space, Parks and Trails Master Plan
The plan for Adams County provides the vision that was lacking for the County to address tremendous changes that have occurred as a result of rapid urbanization over the past ten years. The Master Plan update provided the opportunity to be forward thinking about the parks, trails and recreation needs of residents for the next ten years, and propose a new role of open space to serve as a garden for a metropolis.

Community Engagement – Honor: City of Lakewood Sustainable Neighborhood Program

The Sustainable Neighborhoods Program (SN) gives residents the opportunity to become active partners in making Lakewood a vibrant and sustainable community. Developed through the City’s Neighborhood Planning section as an implementation of Lakewood’s Comprehensive Plan, the program focuses on five goal areas: energy, air, water, land, and people. Within these goal areas, residents in participating neighborhoods select the initiatives and projects that they would like to implement, allowing each neighborhood to address the unique challenges and leverage the opportunities specific to their area of Lakewood

Outstanding Planning Project – Merit: El Paso County Parks Master Plan

The purpose of the project was to update the El Paso County Parks Master Plan, last updated in 2005. The Master Plan is an important document and element of the overarching County Master Plan that guides planning and development of parks, trails and open space. It is also used in the development application review process to ensure that developers contribute to an orderly system of recreation and open space facilities, and provide appropriate dedications of land, easements and fees.

Sustainability and Environmental Planning – Merit: Bucking Horse Ranch

Bucking Horse is an infill, mixed-use neighborhood on 160 acres located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The goal of the project is to “buck” the system and demonstrate a financially successful, agriculture- oriented neighborhood centered on the values of community and quality of life. This new neighborhood will promote a triple bottom line of sustainability considering environmental, social and financial outcomes.

Small Budget – Merit: Sonoran Institute

Twenty years of working with communities to advance conservation and smart growth has taught us that success is not random. It relies on effective local leadership and community capacity. The Community Development Academy (CDA) training program helps local leaders develop the skills and knowledge to assess challenges and opportunities, weigh options, guide the community through challenging issues, and make sound decisions for the future.
