Innovative Active Mode Planning in the Pikes Peak Region

How do you engage an entire region in the transportation planning process? Four partners came together to develop a nonmotorized transportation plan that would work locally, and regionally while being entirely in sync. The Pikes Peak Area’s Regional Nonmotorized Transportation System Plan was developed from the ground up - from using innovative network audit techniques, to engaging residents from all over the region during the planning process using online, interactive tools.

Bringing Community Engagement to the Street

The Golden Triangle Neighborhood Plan was an important step in the evolution of this eclectic, creative district in Downtown Denver. The diverse community is informed, active and full of critical thinkers. They had high expectations for innovative planning, design and economic development. And they required planning processes that engage beyond the typical workshop/charrette format. From this need and setting, “Triangle Transformations” was born. This outdoor, take-it-to-the-streets, “pop-up workshop” engaged community members in ways that were unprecedented in the Denver area.
