After Disaster: Unique Recovery Needs Call for Renewed Federal Advocacy

Boulder County experienced an historic flood in September 2013 resulting in catastrophic damage to homes, businesses, and properties. The region’s mountainous geography presented unique flood recovery challenges for residents in tight canyons, where the flood destroyed the bridges, roads, and driveways that provided sole access to residents’ homes. In response, Boulder County launched the nation’s first Home Access program utilizing HUD Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery funds, providing grants to households to rebuild access structures.
