Plan Manitou: An Approach to Integrate Natural Hazard Risk Reduction and Community Development

The City of Manitou Springs experienced severe flooding in 2013, and is at high risk for other natural hazards. The City undertook a comprehensive plan that included a hazard risk assessment and mitigation strategy. Plan Manitou addresses community development needs while incorporating goals, policies and actions to reduce and mitigate hazard risk.

Linking Public Health and the Built environment

Create Loveland and won a Colorado APA Merit Award in the category of Innovative Partnerships and Collaborations for the relationship between the City and non-profit CanDo. This article describes three lessons that other communities can take from this partnership if they want to include public health in their plans.
